Why Is My Voice Transcription in a Different Language?

Last updated 17 days ago

My dictation is being transcribed in Chinese, Arabic, or other incomprehensible languages. What's wrong?

This issue is typically caused by microphone problems rather than a language setting issue. Here are the most common causes and solutions:

Common Causes

  1. Wrong microphone selected — Your browser or application may be using a different microphone than intended.

  2. Poor microphone quality — A low-quality or damaged microphone can produce distorted audio that the AI misinterprets.

  3. Distance from microphone — Speaking too far from the microphone results in unclear audio that gets misrecognized.

  4. Background noise — Excessive noise in your environment can confuse the transcription system.

How to Fix It

  1. Check your microphone settings — Verify that the correct microphone is selected in your browser or application settings. On most browsers, you can adjust this in Settings > Privacy > Microphone.

  2. Test your microphone quality — Ensure your microphone is working properly and is not damaged.

  3. Get closer to the microphone — Speak clearly and within 15-20 cm of your microphone.

  4. Reduce background noise — Try dictating in a quieter environment.

  5. Try a different browser — If the issue persists, test with another browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge).

  6. Restart your session — Log out and log back in to reset the audio connection.

Upcoming Improvement

We are working on integrating microphone settings directly into the Whisperit application, which will make it easier to troubleshoot and configure your audio input. This feature will be available soon.
